Robotics

The Cotter Robotics team works together to create robots that can compete in competitions that require complex mechanisms, teamwork, and the thinking of an engineer. The team helps prepare students for proper engineering work, as well as teaching teamwork and leadership skills.

We work towards building robots to compete in both VEX IQ and VEX V5 competitions. Competitions are usually held on weekends, not conflicting with schooltime, and happen 2-3 times a year.

More information about the exact details of the competitions can be found here.

The IQ robots are made by the Junior High teams (7-8th grade), and the V5 robots are made by the High School teams (9-12th grade).

IQ robots are made with simple plastic connecting pieces and small electronic components such as motors and sensors.

V5 robots are made with aluminum and screws, requiring the use of tools such as screw drivers and drills. These also include electronic components such as motors and sensors, but also may include pneumatic pistons.

We hold meetings every Tuesday from 3:10-5:15 after school. Members are welcome to come and go as they please, so if a student is not able to attend for the whole time, they are free to leave early.
